The Fusine Lakes are situated in the northern province of Udine, Italy. The lakes are about a 1-hour drive from the city of Udine or just over two hours from the beautiful Venice.
The Laghi di Fusine are easily accessible thanks to the well-paved roads in the area but be prepared for a toll fee as you approach the lakes.
Cars are charged €5, while motorbikes have a €3 fee. After paying, continue on the road until you reach the parking lot near the Upper Lake. From there, it is about a 10-15 minute walk to reach the main trail.

Tickets and Fees
There are no additional tickets or fees for visiting the lakes after you’ve paid the fee when entering the toll road. You can simply park your car and stay as long as you like.

Although it functions more like a rest area than a traditional campsite, Area Camper Fusine offers a small picnic area and the convenience of ordering pastries and croissants for breakfast in the morning. While there are no restroom facilities or electricity available, this rest area is conveniently located just 2.5 kilometers away from the Fusine Lakes.
Alternatively, if you’re open to exploring other camping options, consider crossing the border into the picturesque Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. There, you’ll find more opportunities for an enjoyable camping experience.
Things to do at Fusine Lakes
Hike the Lago Superiore di Fusine Loop
When visiting the Fusine Lakes, the most popular hike to do is the Lago di Superiore Loop. This scenic trail is mostly flat and easy, and encompasses the entire Upper Lake. As you make your way around the circular path, you’ll have spectacular views of the Mangart Peak. There are numerous picture-perfect spots along the way where you can flawlessly capture the reflection of the peak in the water.
The loop stretches for approximately 2 kilometers and can be completed in around 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace. Along the trail, you’ll find several benches and resting areas, providing you with ample opportunities to sit back, relax, and take in the serene surroundings.
Stroll around Lago di Fusine Inferiore
Lago Fusine Inferiore, also known as the Lower Lake, features emerald waters due to the fact that it is completely encompassed by pine trees. Covering a distance of 1.7 kilometers, this loop can be completed in just a 30 minute leisurely stroll.

Rifugio Luigi Zacchi
In addition to the scenic trails that wrap around the two Fusine Lakes, another popular activity is to climb the mountains to Rifugio Luigi Zacchi. Starting at the Upper Lake, there is a 3-kilometer forest path that leads to the mountain hut. This moderate-level route presents a satisfying challenge.
Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with unbeatable views along with a chance to enjoy hot food and drinks inside the mountain hut. It’s important to note that Rifugio Luigi Zacchi is usually only open from May to September, so be sure to check if it’s in operation before you begin your hike.
MTB Track
Mountain biking is a fantastic way to explore the Laghi Fusine. There is a specific trail dedicated to mountain biking that leads up to the Rifugio Luigi Zacchi. As you arrive at the Upper Lake, skip the forested footpath and opt for the broader gravel road to your right–this is the MTB track.
It is approximately 4.5 kilometers in length and promises beautiful views along the way. Hikers sometimes use this path as well, so it’s important to stay alert as you ride and be courteous to other people on the trail.
